Security at Washington International Renewable Energy Conference, WIREC 2008

Conference held in Washington, D.C. was attended by delegations, dignitaries and ministers from 133 countries. President Bush also addressed the conference and toured the trade show.

PSA principal John Enright was personally selected to design and manage security for WIREC 2008 (Washington International Renewable Energy Conference) on behalf of the conference sponsor American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), located in Washington, D.C. The conference was held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in D.C. and was attended by over 6,500 visitors from around the world, including the official delegations, dignitaries and ministers from 133 countries. The conference was held in three different spaces in the Convention Center and consisted of a trade show, a business conference and a ministerial session for the official foreign delegations. The trade show featured renewable energy products and companies from around the globe, including Volvo of Sweden, General Electric Energy of the US and BP (British Petroleum) of Great Britain.

The conference was unique in that it was co-sponsored by the US Department of State and ACORE in a public-private partnership. The work involved coordinating security efforts for all conference events with the US Department of State’s Office of Diplomatic Security.

President Bush also attended the conference, touring the trade show floor and delivered remarks to over 1,800 conference attendees.

The security success achieved for ACORE at WIREC 2008 is indicative of our expertise in corporate, major event and executive security and consultation. Providing a safe environment for over 6,500 conference attendees at this timely and mission-critical renewable energy event is a significant undertaking in itself. However, the addition of delegations and ministers from 133 countries as well as the presence of the President of the United States further complicated the extensive security arrangements for a project as unique as WIREC 2008.
